With its unique and subversive take on classic men’s fashion pieces, celebrated UK menswear brand, Percival, has gained a loyal worldwide customer base who discovered the brand through its popularity with A-listers and its strong online presence.

From an early stage, Percival recognised the advantages of a direct-to-consumer ecommerce business model and implemented it in its international online trade. While demand from global shoppers was high, the team at Percival realised they were not fully capitalising on their impressive global traffic and worldwide sales potential.

Percival maintained two websites, one site that sold domestically and to all international markets except the United States and a second site dedicated to the US market. While the US site offered some level of localisation, maintaining two websites put additional strain on internal resources.

For all markets except the US, Percival offered pricing only in GBP, meaning global shoppers had to estimate the purchase price in their local currency and were vulnerable to transaction fees and unknown international currency rates. Also, Percival could not provide international customers with an accurate duty and tax calculation or the option to prepay those fees at checkout, exposing customers to unexpected charges when their order arrived. In addition, Percival was only able to offer a few alternative payment options on top of credit cards and PayPal. Furthermore, international shipping rates were costly and posed a barrier to conversions.

Percival searched for a robust, cost-effective, and simple-to-manage cross-border ecommerce solution that would enable the brand to unify both websites, provide global shoppers with a best-in-class localised shopping experience from browsing to delivery, and increase D2C international conversion rates and revenue.

  • A wide range of local and alternative payment methods – Shoppers can opt to pay with local and alternative payment methods that are popular in their market. 150+ payment choices are supported

Percival has also seen impressive growth across its key EU markets, including France and Germany.

In Germany, for example, where international conversion rates rose by 118% YoY, the brand’s customers now enjoy a wider range of payment choices. 85% choose to pay with local and alternative payment options such as Apple Pay, Sofortuberweisung, Klarna Buy Now Pay Later, and PayPal.

By offering customers an optimal localised experience tailored to local market preferences and best practices, Percival expanded to additional markets with solid growth potential but saw little to no activity before and have since become strong international markets for the brand. In Canada, for example, Percival now presents pricing in the local currency, includes all duties, and displays only local sales tax at checkout, matching the domestic shopping experience. Over 99% of Canadian shoppers choose to pay in Canadian Dollars, and conversion rates rose by 471% YoY.
