Marc Jacobs, the renowned fashion brand, saw a 130% YoY increase in online international revenues

We were looking for an advanced cross-border ecommerce solution which would enable us not only to provide our customers worldwide with a seamless localised shopping experience that would meet our high standards, but also to optimise our online international performance.

Matthew Schiff Vice President Ecommerce, Marc Jacobs

Within three months of partnering with Global-e, the leading brand saw a 77% boost in its number of international orders

The Challenge

As one of the most famous luxury fashion brands in the world, Marc Jacobs had been transacting online with shoppers worldwide for a long time. However, they were only able to offer a limited localised experience, supporting just a few international currencies in addition to $US (AUD, GBP, EUR, HKD, KRW), they were only accepting payments through major international credit cards and PayPal, and weren’t able to adjust the local pricing to their specific marketing strategy and MSRP pricing in the different markets.

The brand sought a new powerful cross-border ecommerce solution that would enable them to optimise their performance in current key markets, widen their global online reach and offer a seamless localised experience to their international shoppers. This included overcoming the different barriers to effective cross border trading such as import duties and taxes calculation and guaranteed landed cost and checkout adjusted to local characteristics in different markets (language, required fields, payment options, etc.).

The premier brand was seeking an end-to-end solution that would make cross-border selling as simple as a domestic sale in the US, while removing all risks of international fraud management and currencies volatility. Marc Jacobs needed an advanced solution that natively supported their SFCC ecommerce platform, a partner with a proven track record in supporting global leading brands and the experience and ability to run a super-fast implementation process.

The Solution

In order to improve its global online sales and maximise its international potential, Marc Jacobs chose Global-e, the leading provider of comprehensive cross-border ecommerce solutions. With over 200 leading global brands and retailers counted among its partners and with its unparalleled experience and track record supporting the Salesforce Commerce Cloud platform, Global-e was a perfect fit for the international growth aspirations of the brand.

By implementing Global-e’s comprehensive Smart Cross-Border™ solution, the brand was immediately able to offer shoppers worldwide a seamless, localised shopping experience meeting the high standards of the renowned brand, and to tailor its international offering to its business strategy and needs:

  • Localised welcome pop-up – for customising key marketing messages for shoppers in different markets (for example, whether duties and taxes are included in product prices, free shipping promotions, etc.)
  • Local pricing in accordance with the brand’s business strategy including fixed MSRP pricing in key markets
  • Prices presented in local currencies and rounded according to local market conventions
  • Localised checkout supporting 30+ languages, and with fields adjusted for the destination markets
  • Guaranteed duties and taxes calculation with options for prepayment at checkout and product pricing inclusive of taxes
  • A variety of commonly used local payment methods including all dominant alternative payment methods for their key markets, such as Klarna open invoice (~35% market share in Germany), WeChat and Alipay in China (~75% market share) and many more
  • Transparent and easy returns process including prepaid returns and usage of Global-e’s local consolidation centres

Furthermore, Global-e worked together with Marc Jacobs to complete the implementation in a record time of three weeks, with daily status meetings that supported the process and ensured that everything proceeded according to the very tight schedule.

The Results

Within three months of partnering with Global-e, the number of international online orders increased 77% YoY compared to the same period in the previous year. The brand saw ecommerce revenues increase by 130% and increased satisfaction from international shoppers.

These positive results were seen across markets, with exceptional results in some of the brand’s key international markets:

Furthermore, additional average-performing markets have become key markets, such as France, with revenues increasing 484% in the first five months since implementation, and taking the seventh spot among the brand’s top performing markets.

Our need for a super-fast implementation was met by Global-e who got us up and running in just 3 weeks! We were so impressed by their high technological capabilities and the efficiency of the team who managed the process. Their ongoing support, market insights and experience enable us to maximise our international sales and conversion rates, and align our international offering with our business strategy in each and every market.
